Prossima riunione 15 marzo – Save the date

Dear all,

Please save the date for our next meeting, which will be held on the evening of 15th March, from 6 – 7:30pm.

A calendar invite will follow.

Dr. Maurice Glasman (Lord Glasman) will be our speaker.

Our theme will be :

The meaning of work, the dignity of labour, and the family as the fundamental cell of society

  • The spiritual and economic meaning and value of work according to Catholic social thought
  • The respective role of government and other organisations in determining and ensuring a just/living wage
  • Guilds, apprenticeships, unions and SMEs vs multinational corporations
  • Work, marriage and the family as ingredients for a fulfilled life

The discussion will revolve around how the pandemic, and more especially, the policy response, have created unprecedented challenges for workers, blue-collar and white-collar alike – and how CST principles can help restore some kind of equilibrium.

Preparatory readings will be circulated later this week.

Lord Glasman

Dr. Maurice Glasman is an English political theorist, academic, social commentator, and Labour life peer in the House of Lords. He is a senior lecturer in Political Theory at London Metropolitan University and Director of its Faith and Citizenship Programme.  Prior to becoming a peer, Baron Glasman worked for ten years for London Citizens on their Living Wage campaign. He is widely known for establishing “Blue Labour”, a conservative form of socialism within the Labour party which encourages a return to community values based on trade unions, the Church and voluntary groups. He is the author of Unnecessary Suffering: Managing Market Utopia, which argues that the commodification of human beings and nature is a nightmare.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 15th
