FAMILY AS FOUNDATION FOR RENEWED ECONOMIC GROWTH IN EUROPE. JUNE 12ND 2014 BRATISLAVA

“Family as Foundation for Renewed Economic Growth in Europe”

Members of Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice – Slovak Chapter Chapter, in cooperation with Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Central European Business and Social Initiative, organized an International Economic Conference “Family as Foundation for Renewed Economic Growth in Europe” on 12. June 2014 in Bratislava, hosting speakers, professors, experts, entrepreneurs, businessmen and politicians from Ukraine, Austria, Italy, Slovakia and United states of America.

Following Address of Pope Francis to Participants of Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Annual Meeting in Rome in May 2014, conference focused on combining theoretical and practical aspects of Economic and Moral Values in the areas of Family, Christian Community and Society. Part of the discussions focused on implementing Christian values in the areas of Social, Economic and Political Life, with particular discussions about the role of Family in Contemporary Society.

Distinguished panelists included Professor Stefano Zamagni – Vice-Director, School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University, Professor of Economy at Bologna university, Ľudovít Ódor – Member of the Council for Budget Responsibility, Fr. Marcel Guarnizo – Pro-Europa Foundation, Christiaan W.J.M. Alting von Geusau – President of International Theological Institute Trumau, H.E. Mons. Cyril Vasiľ SJ – Secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, Patrik Daniška – Director of Human Rights and Family Policy Institute, Fr. Yuriy Kolasa – International Theological Institute Trumau, Protosyncellus / Vicar general for the Byzantine Catholics in Austria and Mons. Luis Okulik – Secretary of the Social Affairs Commission at the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences.

Several leading political figures have attended the conference, including Advisor to the Prime Minister, former Prime Minister of Slovakia, former Ministers of Interior, Education, as well as several Members of National Council and of European Parliament. Auxiliary Bishop of Bratislava H.E. Jozef Halko participated in the working breakfast, Apostolic Nuncius to Slovakia H.E. Mario Giordana and Minister of Justice Tomas Borec greeted participants of the conference with personal letters and Secretary General of the Foundation Massimo Gattamelata represented the foundation headquarters during the conference. Members of the Foundation informed Bratislava Archbishop Stanislav Zvolensky and Apostolic Nuncius to Slovakia about the outcomes of the conference in individual follow-up meetings.
